Birmingham Hookups: Casual Sex on Your Terms

Find your part of the centre, check the Metro’s safety features and order a home STI kit before you meet.

The short answer

Start with a chat, agree what you both want, then choose a busy public place in the centre and work out your way home. Transport for West Midlands says many key routes run later into the night, and West Midlands Metro says every stop has a help point.

Birmingham is big, so plan the night

  • 1,144,919usual residents in the City of Birmingham, Census 2021 (ONS)
  • Every stopon the Metro has a help point, says its operator
  • 16+age for Umbrella’s home STI kit in Birmingham or Solihull

Order a home STI kit before you meet

  1. Check you qualify

Umbrella, run by University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, offers a free self-sampling kit to anyone 16 or over living in Birmingham or Solihull.

  2. Choose where it goes

Have it sent to your home, another address or an Umbrella pharmacy, and return it in the pre-paid package.

  3. Wait for the results

The kit tests for chlamydia, gonorrhoea, HIV and syphilis. Results come by phone or text and, says Umbrella, may take up to 10 working days after it receives your kit.

Prefer a clinic? Book online or ring 0121 237 5700. Its appointments page names Whittall Street Clinic, Erdington Clinic and Umbrella at Boots in Solihull. More in the UK STI testing guide.

Four districts, four different nights

  • Broad Street and Brindleyplace

Wikipedia calls Broad Street a popular nightspot centre, with the bars and restaurants of Brindleyplace along it.

  • Hurst Street

Home to the Gay Village, beside the Chinese Quarter. Wikipedia says it grew in the 1980s and took its shape in the 1990s.

  • Jewellery Quarter

In Hockley, north-west of the centre, with 106 listed buildings. Its station is a shared Metro and rail stop.

  • Bullring

The Selfridges building at the 2003 shopping centre is clad in 15,000 aluminium discs, says Wikipedia.

Where should the first meet be?

  • Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, Chamberlain Square: no booking and no entry charge. Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm, in term time; daily in school holidays.
  • Victoria Square, next door, is often considered the centre of Birmingham, says Wikipedia.
  • Centenary Square is a public square beside Broad Street, with a theatre, the Library of Birmingham and Symphony Hall around it.
  • Gas Street Basin is a public canal basin just off Broad Street, with bars and restaurants nearby.

Museum hours from the gallery’s own site, read on 3 November 2026.

Plan the rest with meeting for sex safely.

Know your way home before the night starts

Transport for West Midlands says that around the main centres many key routes keep running into the small hours. The Metro runs from Birmingham to Wolverhampton, so check its timetable for your last tram before you go.

West Midlands Metro says platforms are well lit and monitored by CCTV, with help-point buttons at every stop and on every tram. TfWM suggests waiting in busy, well-lit places, and texting 81018, starting ‘See Say’, to report anti-social behaviour on public transport.

Feeling unsafe in a venue? Where the national scheme runs, ask staff for ‘Angela’. Central BID, a business improvement district rather than the council, said in October 2024 that it was training city-centre venues in the scheme.

Which ages use the site across the UK?

This is the UK as a whole. Birmingham gets no figure of its own, because the site publishes no city-level split.

Widen the search by train
