Houston Hookups: Plan the Night, Then the Ride Home
Houston is huge and the trains sleep around midnight, so plan the ride before you plan the night.
Houston hookups start with a halfway point and a plan for the ride home, because the city is spread out. Chat on the site first, then pick a public place such as Discovery Green, and check METRO’s rail hours before you count on a train.
Big distances
How far apart are you, really?
Wikipedia gives Houston 640.4 square miles, and the Census Bureau’s estimate for 1 July 2025 is 2,397,315 people. Wikipedia also says no bigger US city lacks formal zoning regulations. A VIP distance filter helps in a city this size. Distances, per Wikipedia:
- 19miles to Sugar Land, southwest of downtown
- 28miles to The Woodlands, up Interstate 45
- 45miles to Galveston, southeast of downtown
Closer in, Wikipedia calls Montrose the centre of the region’s LGBTQ culture since the 1970s, and Midtown, with three Red Line stops, had many new bars by 2012.
Getting home
What still runs after midnight?
- METRO’s rail page says the Red, Green and Purple lines start before 5am and finish after midnight, every day. None runs round the clock.
- METRO says Red Line trains come every 6 minutes Monday to Friday and every 12 on Saturday and Sunday, for most operating hours.
- A METRO Day Pass is good through 2am the next day.
- Uber says its app can request a ride in Houston anytime, 24/7, and Lyft lists the city too.
On a platform, METRO says to use the emergency call box, which goes straight to MPD Dispatch, and its pedestrian tips say to wear bright or reflective clothing at night.
Driving? Wikipedia’s summary of Texas law says opened containers must be kept in the trunk or somewhere the driver and passengers cannot reach. The simplest plan is not to drink before you drive.
Times as of November 2026; METRO can change them.
Bar hours
When does the bar day end?
| Day | Sales hours | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Monday to Friday | 7am to midnight | Same every weekday |
| Saturday | 7am to 1am | Runs into Sunday morning |
| Sunday | Noon to midnight | 10am to noon only with food |
| Late-hours permit | Until 2am, any night | Only where the city or county allows it |
Whether a Houston venue holds a late-hours permit is a question for the venue. You must be 21 to buy alcohol, the commission says, and staff often ask for photo ID. Members can be 18, so a museum or a park walk suits everyone.
Green and indoor options
Four places that keep a first meet simple
Discovery Green
A 12-acre village green downtown, open daily 6am to 11pm, with 600-plus events a year at no charge, it says.
Buffalo Bayou Park
160 acres west of downtown, says the Buffalo Bayou Partnership. Lighted areas stay open 6am to 11pm and the rest dawn to dusk, so keep to the lit paths.
Hermann Park
445 acres, with the Houston Zoo and a Red Line station at its western edge, says Wikipedia.
The Menil Collection
The museum says it never charges for entry. Open Wednesday to Sunday, 11am to 7pm: indoors, staffed and quiet enough to talk.
Whichever you pick, say what you both want before you meet. Meeting for sex safely covers the rest.
Testing close to home
Three city sites where you can get tested
- Northside
- 8504 Schuller Road, Houston 77093
- Sharpstown
- 6201 Bonhomme Road, South Tower, 3rd floor
- Sunnyside
- 4410 Reed Road, Houston 77051
The Houston Health Department says its centres give care for sexually transmitted diseases on a discounted sliding fee schedule. Its Sexual Health Clinic has encouraged appointments since 1 September 2026, on 832-393-4220, and says walk-ins are welcome but may be limited when the clinic is full. For syphilis testing it lists an information line on 832-393-5427. Ring first to check hours. The STI testing in the USA guide has more.
The age mix
Which ages are on the site in the USA?
Ages here are counted across the USA, not city by city.
Age profile of members in the USA: each bar is a share of the list.
Los Angeles and Chicago have pages too, and the USA page covers the country. Sex near me explains nearness, and locations lists every city.
Getting around Houston: your questions
Do trains run late in Houston?
Not past about midnight. METRO says its Red, Green and Purple lines run from before 5am to after midnight every day, and none runs round the clock, so line up a ride-hailing lift or check METRO before you set off.
Can bars serve until 2am in Houston?
Only with a late-hours permit, in a city or county that allows it, says the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission. Otherwise bars may sell until midnight on weekdays and Sundays, and until 1am on Saturday night. Ask the venue which applies.
Where can I get an STI test in Houston?
The Houston Health Department’s Northside, Sharpstown and Sunnyside sites provide care for sexually transmitted diseases on a discounted sliding fee schedule. Its Sexual Health Clinic has encouraged appointments since 1 September 2026, on 832-393-4220, and walk-ins may be limited when it is full. Ring first to check hours.
