Before the Subway stops
Glasgow Hookups: Find Casual Sex and Plan the Night
Know when the Subway stops, which bus takes over and where to book a test, then arrange your night.
Agree what you both want in the chat, pick a public place, then plan the way home before anything else. The Subway runs until 11.40pm Monday to Saturday, and NightBus services take over on Fridays and Saturdays.
Four ways home from a Glasgow night out
Missing the last Subway is nobody’s idea of a good ending.
Catch the Subway while it runs
SPT, which runs it, gives Monday to Saturday hours of 6.30am to 11.40pm and Sunday hours of 10am to 6.12pm, with last trains between 11.16pm and 11.30pm Monday to Saturday.
Switch to NightBus
McGill’s runs six hourly routes (N3, N4, N6, N26, N38 and N60) on Friday and Saturday nights, linking the centre with Paisley, Clydebank, Newton Mearns, Pollok, Drumchapel and Govan. Last departures are as late as 3.45am, depending on the route, and a single has been capped at two pounds since 2 October 2026.
Or take the 77
First Bus says route 77, between the city centre, the West End and the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, has run round the clock, seven days a week, since 18 January 2026.
Check the trains
STV News reported in May 2025 that ScotRail would allow drinking on its trains from 10am to 9pm and keep the ban from 9pm to 10am. Check ScotRail for today’s rule.
Merchant City, West End or Finnieston?
National Records of Scotland’s mid-2025 estimate puts Glasgow City at 654,330 people, and the age group with most people is 25 to 44, at 229,260.
- Merchant City
- Byres Road
- Finnieston
- Sauchiehall Street
Wikipedia calls Byres Road ‘the central artery of the city’s West End’, where the University of Glasgow gives the area a large student population. Finnieston gained many new bars and restaurants in the early 21st century. Merchant City, built from the 1750s for the ‘tobacco lords’, now promotes bars, restaurants and an annual street arts festival.
Galleries and a park to meet in
Kelvingrove
Argyle Street. There is no entry charge, and donations are welcome. Open 10am to 5pm Monday to Thursday and Saturday, 11am to 5pm Friday and Sunday. Kelvinhall Subway station is about half a mile away.
Gallery of Modern Art
Royal Exchange Square, in the city centre. No entry charge, and the hours match Kelvingrove’s.
Glasgow Green
Wikipedia calls it the city’s oldest park, with 55 hectares and Nelson’s Monument from 1806. It is open parkland, so keep to daylight.

Book your test at Sandyford
Book ahead. Sandyford, the specialist sexual health service for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, says ‘please don’t come to clinic without a booking’. It lists one exception, a Wednesday drop-in from 1pm to 3pm for men who have sex with men, gay and bisexual men included. Phone 0141 211 8130.
It says all its services are free, sensitive and confidential. With no symptoms, book an ‘Express test, no talk’ online; with symptoms, phone for a consultation. It recommends tests for gonorrhoea, chlamydia, HIV and syphilis. Sandyford Central is at 2 to 6 Sandyford Place, G3 7NB. The UK STI testing guide covers when to test.
See which age groups are on the site
The site gives no figure for Glasgow alone, so here is the UK mix.
In the UK, these are the shares of members in each age band.
Three towns and cities by train
| Town | By train from about |
|---|---|
| Paisley | 9 minutes |
| Stirling | 25 minutes |
| Edinburgh | Around 45 minutes |
Edinburgh is the obvious next page, and Liverpool has its own too. Sex near me covers how searching by town works, the UK page covers the country and the locations hub lists every city. Celtic Connections runs 14 to 31 January 2027, says the festival.
Glasgow questions, answered
Does the Glasgow Subway run all night?
No. SPT’s hours are 6.30am to 11.40pm from Monday to Saturday and 10am to 6.12pm on Sundays. It is one circle of 15 stations, and a full lap takes 24 minutes. After it stops, use a Friday or Saturday NightBus or the round-the-clock 77.
Can I walk in to Sandyford?
Not usually. Sandyford says its services need booking in advance, with one exception: a Wednesday drop-in from 1pm to 3pm for men who have sex with men, gay and bisexual men included. Otherwise phone 0141 211 8130, or book an Express test online if you have no symptoms. If you think you have been exposed to HIV, Sandyford says to call as soon as possible.
Can I order an STI test kit for home in Glasgow?
Sometimes. Sandyford offers a home kit for chlamydia and gonorrhoea only, if you were advised to test for just those. You must be 16 or over, and it allows one kit per person every three months.
Which Glasgow spots suit a first meet?
Pick a busy public place with set hours, such as Kelvingrove or the Gallery of Modern Art, both open until 5pm. Keep Glasgow Green for daylight, let a friend know where you will be and plan your way home first.
